Chaos: Punk to Couture Exhibit.

POLYVOR14

Last week I took a quick trip to NYC so that I can visit The Met for the Chaos: Punk to Couture exhibition as a Polvyore community correspondent! It was a total experience as we were treated to a VIP tour of the exhibition with Moda Operandi x Polyvore. We saw firsthand the amazing pieces by some of the best designers/labels like; Burberry, Moschino, Vivienne Westwood, Maison Martin Margiela, and many more. The exhibition showed how punk has influenced high fashion today and how everyday items like safety pins were a big part of the punk movement. It was an era of DIY- where they liked to add certain elements to their look like rips, patches, holes, safety pins, etc. to make themselves stand out.

After the 1+ hour tour, we then headed to the Moda Operandi offices so that we could take a closer look at some of the Punk to Couture pieces!

Is the punk era inspiring to you as far as fashion goes? Do tell!
Enjoy the photos!

| Outside the Met | It was my first time visiting the Met, and although we were only there to check out the Chao: Punk to Couture exhibition, I’m making it a goal to go back to check out the whole museum. It was mind-blowing!

Yes the punk influences are everywhere in fashion even though we may not think of it! for instance studded purses and shoes like your Valentino ones are everywhere. It has been trending for sometime now and it looks like its here to stay! Enjoy your visit in Barcelona cant wait for pictures!

That ‘Rebel of the Ball’ top is so badass. Can’t wait to see the show…went to the Vivienne Westwood show at the V&A in London a few years ago and it was beyond inspiring.

Seems like such a great exhibit! I think the details from the punk era are so incredible and out of the box; however I tend to gravitate more towards the 50′s & 60′s. I think the looks were so classic, streamlined and chic! It was a time period that really embraced women and their beauty!

This is quite impressive to realize the impact of the punk culture on nowadays high end fashion . I am not that much into it, though I am a big fan of the stranglers scarry looks and music!. I prefer the 60′s and the 70′s, more flattering for women’s figure.
Thanks for sharing . Do you know there is a chance the exhibition will travel throughout big cites and stop at let’s say Paris?. I would definitely go and visit it.

I miss the days when you explored fashion like this yet still wore amazing forever21 finds that everyone wished they had an eye for. Your blog taught me that it was ok to be bored of trends, bring old trends back for a day or make you own. I can’t afford any of your outfit picks anymore and you’re not aimed for my demographics of fashion junkies. I guess we just get smaller looking down from the top. To the most stylish person I’ve wandered across on the blogosphere, so long.

I think the punk movement is amazing – I love how an element of punk can add so much to an outfit. Spike, for example, can add that edge that an outfit may need. I can only take it in small doses though. I wrote a post on the Met Gala that was celebrating this exhibition if you have the chance to check it out http://theavantgardeguide.wordpress.com/2013/05/24/the-overdue-met-gala-2013-post/
