I love putting together a monochromatic outfit, aka a one color look – they’re simple, stylish and classic. I’ve been experimenting with tonal dressing for some time and I’ve learned it takes trial and error to get it right but once you do, the result is so chic.
Start by choosing a color you gravitate to – I personally love neutral hues like beige, off white, diff shades of brown etc. Second, choose your fabrics. I like mixing textures to keep my outfit interesting, ie. denim paired with knits, wool or your typical blazer fabric as I’ve done here. Finally you’re going to want to accessorize. Adding statement or even minimal jewelry is a great way to incorporate some sparkle to your ensemble.

Styling tip: you don’t need to always have pieces in the same exact shade to work. Experimenting with contrasting colors in your shoes, accessories or even your mani / pedi is a great way to bring freshness and add a pop of color to your monochromatic look.

I really love some of your outfit choices, great looks, but for me this one is a fail. I agree on a monochromatic look, but this doesn’t do it for me. If you feel great in it, that’s all that matters. For me a polished look never includes pants that are too long. A little ankle showing looks great, especially if you have great ankles, which you obviously do. For me the rule is, oversized top, more fitted bottom, oversized/loose bottoms, fitted top. Oversized + oversized, = baggy, no polish. Looked through several outfits, my favs are the cargo skirt with black shirt and the black sweatshirt and boyfriend jeans with low healed sandal and gold jewelry. Probably because these have a more polished look. The too long jeans with the ballerina flats, and Yale sweatshirt, which looks better to me than this, but still is an overall fail because of the jeans and flats chosen. If my jeans are grazing the top of my foot, an elegant pointed toed flat gives a more polished look. Just opinion, everyone has their thing…..
