Things to do and eat in Lisbon!

Lisbon, Portugal July 28

If you’ve been wondering if you should visit Lisbon, the answer is YES! After a couple of failed travel plans to visit, I finally made it. I am beyond excited and grateful to get the opportunity to explore and learn about this city/country. So far, Lisbon is more than I dreamed it to be – it is absolutely magical and has so much to it: from its architecture, to delicious food, to the kindest people, to the beautiful culture and to so much more. Did you know Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world?!

Below, I’m sharing a few spots I’ve checked out, restaurant recommendations, what I’ve been wearing and a few other tips. I’ve only been here a short time so there is still so much more to see and explore. In the meantime I hope these tips inspire you to book that flight!

RESTAURANTS

Barrio Do Avillez, is a venue located in Chiado, Rua Nova da Trindade, Lisbon that offers different eating areas – it reminds me of a food court but 100 x’s cooler! Here you have options to enjoy Taberna (tavern); a Pateo where you will enjoy the most delicious seafood and fish, a mini bar, and a pizza spot all signed by renowned chef José Avillez. This place was so wonderful 10/10 I recommend it. Definitely one of my faves from the trip!

Taberna Da Rua Das Flores, after a long day of wandering we came across this cozy restaurant. We were seated right away and the staff was so friendly. The food was incredible! Two things to note, the menu changes daily but a server will walk you through it + they only take cash.

Tascha, this is a mom and pop type of restaurant. The owner, Paulo, was so sweet and welcoming! Can’t say enough good things about the menu – DELICIOUS! The night we went to sit for a meal, we were treated to a wonderful performance by a woman with the most beautiful voice. It was so romantic and intimate.

Pastéis de Belém, for the most delicious Pastel de nata and other deserts this place is a must! If you don’t know what Pastel de nata is, it is a Portuguese egg custard tart pastry dusted with cinnamon and it is absolutely divine, so yummy!!!

WHAT TO WEAR

It’s currently summer, so I’ve been wearing dresses, shorts, jeans with tanks and many lightweight pieces.  If you have a full day of exploring, I definitely recommend you dress as comfortably as possible. For a chill day/or if you are going to a local spot from your stay, sandals and low heeled shoes work. Do note that there are many cobblestone streets and a lot of walking to do so make sure to pack comfy footwear.

MONUMENTS/ ARCHITECTURE

For architecture lovers, there’s plenty to discover in Lisbon. This city has a variety of architectural styles, from ancient castles, to cathedrals and so many more must-see buildings. I was able to visit the Torre de Belem Tower, a monument located at the margin of Tagus River (about 15 min from the city center). The Belem tower is divided into 2 parts, the tower has 5 floors. Directly in front of the tower is an open public space where people enjoy nice picnics. I highly recommend you check it out, to learn more about its history + stunning architecture. You’ll need to book tickets in advance to visit.

TRANSPORTATION

There are several ways to get the most out of exploring the city, we rented a cute yellow vespa. So fun! Not only was it a cool way to see the city and get around but it made for cute photo op moments. A car will work too, or if you just want to travel everywhere by foot there are trams available!

Throw on your fav jeans + button up and low heeled shoes for a chill day in Lisbon!
