A few weeks ago, I threw an intimate surprise birthday brunch for one of my best girlfriends. The weather has been so beautiful (think sunny, blue sky, over 85°degree weather!) here in LA, so I thought an outdoor Spring picnic in my backyard would be exceptionally fitting for the occasion. When it comes to putting together an event, I always make sure to have a checklist for all of the things I’ll need plus a theme in mind so I could pull the best inspo. For this picnic, I went for a pretty Spring rustic vibe that could make you feel like you were in Italy somewhere! I wanted my girl to be surrounded by pretty blooms and pops of color for a dreamy setting and it was a big hit, everyone loved it!

Below are a few of my favorite tips I want to share with you to create the perfect outdoor Spring setting:
- For the table setting, pick cute tablecloths with pretty prints like gingham for a fun twist (extra tip: I used a gingham print fabric instead of a tablecloth, you can buy so many different ones at Joan’s!). Replace your basic white plates with fun colors like lavender or yellow to elevate the table setting (World Market has really cute ones that are super inexpensive!). For napkins, use neutral tones to contrast the pops of color and add a couple of candles for when evening begins to set in.
- Create beautiful floral arrangements (big or small) and place them between the main table (I usually always do 3 arrangements for the main table), food table and dessert table! I also had an arrangement for our little vignette area where we posed for photos! I like to go for colorful floral arrangements to help bring both table settings to life and tie in the Spring theme.
- Desert + food table, I usually like to split these two up, but this time I decided to put them together on one table. Make sure you have a few matching colorful bowls like the main table setting. I also like to incorporate different texture bowls like ceramic, wood or wicker for a rustic feel. Lastly, set your cake on a cake stand so it can sit higher than the rest of the food and stand out!
- Have a designated area with cushions, a rug, cute wicker baskets, and a throw so you and your guests can relax and chat while enjoying margaritas or fresh squeeze lemonade, plus it serves also as a vignette so you and your friends can take cute photos for the ‘gram!
I hope you enjoyed these tips and they’re helpful for your next outdoor fiesta! You can find most of these items at HomeGoods, Target, Marshall’s, World Market or fabric stores. Have fun at your next backyard gathering and impress everyone with these cute tips!
