BIG News!! The SJ team and I are packing up and moving to a new office!! I can’t even get my thoughts together without getting a little teary.

It’s such a bittersweet feeling to be honest. When we first moved into our last office last year, I couldn’t believe it. I was over the moon with excitement. The thought of having a real office to work from was a dream come true. Going from working and packaging hundreds of orders in my kitchen from our online store to finally finding “the perfect” studio/office space was definitely one of my favorite accomplishment highlights. We couldn’t keep packaging orders from my kitchen, the orders were getting bigger and bigger. We needed a space to ship our orders from, to be creative in, to blog from, to have meetings in, to have a photo studio in, to just expand really but most importantly to hire people to be a part of our team.

We moved into this super cool, loft-feel space with high ceilings and white brick walls that we made into our second home. We didn’t think we would ever fill it up with furniture or other necessities because we thought it was a huge space. It came together rather slowly but organically over time. It had a very “lived-in” feel with comfy chairs, a bunch of candles everywhere, succulents, art work, stacks of magazines, polaroid photos of everyone who came to visit us and just an overall fun vibe. As our shop grew with orders and product, our team grew too.

We made room and adjusted rapidly but knew we were quickly outgrowing it.

When we first got the keys to our first office, I swore we would NEVER move offices. The space was perfect and so private from everything and everyone which I loved. It was a true hidden gem. A gem I saw working from for many years to come, it just really felt like home. A year later, we are now moving offices. Tear, smile, Tear. It’s crazy how things happen, and how fast.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy, excited, proud, and ecstatic to be able to grow and move into a bigger space to better fulfill our needs. I just didn’t think it was going to come this quick, you know? moving offices and all. I thought we were going to be in our old place for 3-4 years minimum, but 1 year? Whoa. We definitely outgrow it and not that that’s a bad thing, but it makes me sad a bit because we built so many memories in our last office. It was a space that helped us pave way for wants to come next. That office was our first move to prove to ourselves we can do this and take this to the next level. Now, here we are. A new space, a new area and a new attitude.

Although it’s been a hectic couple of days trying to move everything into the new office and getting settled in, all I could think about now is the future. It’s a fresh new beginning and I feel so revamped now to bring you guys cooler product, better content and just be more creative. It’s a move that made me sad at first, but now I see the bigger picture!

I decided to leave most of our furniture behind and do a brand new look coming into this new space. I’m pulling inspiration and making wish lists of things I want to get. I have a lot of work to do- trying to design the look & feel of the new office is not an easy task. Thinking about it  gives me anxiety but I’m up for the challenge.  I can’t wait to share the space with you guys once it’s all completed… and cheers to a new beginning! Thank you guys for being so sweet and supportive of me and SJ. I love you guys and we can’t wait to share our growth with you when we bring you new stuff!

* Above I made a collage full of things I’m hoping to pick up; the look and feel will be completely different from the last office. Can’t wait to see how it turns out! Stay tuned!

Boot Season!

CHLOÉ Studded Susanna boots

So since fall is here, it’s finally time to pull out your favorite boots and layer up- yay!! I got too excited for it that I packed of one of my favorite pairs to San Diego to try and get in the spirit. Unfortunately, the weather in Los Angeles is still beaming at close to 100 degrees making it very difficult and not fun, to enjoy the fall season. Tear, tear. (Side note: I get many comments/emails regarding posting more “fall/winter” looks for you guys experiencing the real colder weather for inspiration…but it makes it very difficult for me to when it feels like a sauna outside, it’s unbearable! I promise as soon as the temperature drops, I’ll post more fall/winter looks on the blog!)

Even though it still feels like the beginning of summer here in LA, I’m not letting it stop me from preparing for when the temperature cools down enough to wear chunky knits, scarfs, coats and of course boots. I’ve learned to not fall into the whole trend scene when it comes to certain pieces, but as I get older, it really is more about quality over quantity. Before I would just buy, buy, buy and wasn’t really concern about the quality, so I obviously just had a bunch of stuff that really wasn’t worth it. Now, I really scout for the perfect piece, bag, jacket, jewelry, or boots. I really do save money to splurge on the ‘right’ item because I know in the long run, I’ll have it for years to come.

But, I do know some of us can’t splurge because of other priorities, which is completely fine, but I think it’s all about being a smart shopper. Look for deals online, buy on sites like ebay for that designer item you’ve been eyeing, keep track of sales, but most importantly, whatever you buy whether its expensive or not, make sure you’re buying it because it’s a piece that will complement your wardrobe for years to come not just for a couple of months. Always think of quality over quantity, no matter the price.

I splurged a little… well, more like I got lucky, with these Chloé Susanna boots last year when I scored them for almost half the price on a sale! YES! I love the studded details and buckle straps that give it a tough look but the color makes it a bit more feminine and easier to transition from fall to spring. Eventhough the weather is still not fall appropriate, I’m making a wishlist of boots that I’m considering to splurge on for when it finally arrives in LA. I’m thinking a pair of knee-high boots to wear with  flowy dresses with chunky knits or black, buckle strap boots to replace my Balenciaga ones!

Any boots you guys are eyeing for this season or any classic ones? Share! I always want to know what other people are into!

Here are some cool options, both new and classic:

Sundressing.

I’ve learned to master how to pack light when it comes to mini trips just like my quick trip to both Santa Clara and San Diego. Since I knew hot weather was going to be pretty major in both cities, I made sure to pack easy pieces that can take me from day to night.

Lately, i’ve had to rely on re-working what’s in my wardrobe because I really haven’t had time to go shopping for new clothes, which makes me sad- but I have been working/traveling non-stop making it hard to shop and two) been focusing and working on new things that I can’t wait to share! However, I find it fun and challenging to be able to re-wear some of my favorite pieces because we tend to just keep buying and buying, and not wear whats already in our closets. I know I can be guilty of that. Thoughts?

Anyway, this little slip dress is one of those pieces that I packed with me and re-worked into a different look from how I wore it in Dallas. I knew I was going to be running around the city so a pair of flats did the trick, plus a little pop of red around the wait helps break-up the all nude color scheme.

Ps- Thank you guys so much for all the sweet comments regarding my hard drive. Glad I wasn’t alone and you guys felt the same way… I’m currently still waiting to hear back from the shop to see if the photos can be saved! I’ll keep you guys posted, keep your fingers crossed for me! xo

Also, thanks for all the feedback regarding what you’d like to see on SJ, many of you had great ideas and I wrote all of them down. Now I just gotta find a way to schedule them into the blog, so be patient with me! I promise you, I will post all about my hair, beauty regime, fall essentials, etc etc soon!
